About us

About Doing The Online Thing

We help small-business owners, freelancers, and independent creators build a credible online presence without a marketing degree or a big budget.

Our mission

Doing The Online Thing exists because most website advice online is written for developers or marketers, not for the person who also does the bookkeeping, answers the phone, and manages the actual business. We write for that person.

Every guide is meant to help you make one decision or finish one task: pick a platform, write a homepage, or fix a checkout page that's losing customers.

What we cover

Our content sits across six areas: website planning, website platforms, domain names and hosting, branding for small businesses, content strategy, and website copywriting. We add new topics when readers tell us what's missing.

What we never do

We don't hide affiliate relationships, present sponsored rankings as independent reviews, or claim a new website guarantees customers. If a tool isn't a good fit for a beginner, we say so.
